Trump indicates that he will "probably" debate Harris but suggests he could also justify opting out. In response, her team claims he is afraid

Donald Trump appears to be retreating from his earlier promise to debate Vice President Kamala Harris, expressing doubts about the significance of the meeting. He stated that he “probably” will participate in the debate but also suggested he could argue against it, leading Harris's campaign to claim he is “scared.”

In a recent interview with Fox News Channel that aired Monday night, Trump was pressed multiple times on his commitment to debate Harris, ultimately providing a less definitive response than he had in previous days.

The former Republican president had been open to debating President Joe Biden when he was the Democratic nominee, despite previously questioning Biden's mental fitness for the role. However, with Biden now out of the race and Harris positioned as the Democratic candidate, Trump has begun to challenge the conditions of the original debate he agreed to with Biden. He has proposed relocating the September 10 debate from ABC News to another network, labeling ABC as “fake news.”

Last week, during a phone call with reporters, Trump was asked if he would commit to debating Harris at least once. He replied, “Oh, yes, absolutely. I’d want to,” emphasizing that there is an obligation to debate.
